CALH receives Sierra Club award

Hempstead – On Thursday, December 13, 2018, four representatives of Citizens Against the Landfill in Hempstead (CALH) attended the Houston Sierra Club 2018 Awards Program. Among several other award winners for the evening, CALH was honored with Sierra Club’s “Special Service Award” for 2018. In his introduction of CALH to the audience of Sierra Club members, Brandt Mannchen, Awards Committee Chairman, praised the organization for its monumental ‘grass roots’ effort and successfully unifying the community to protect the environment. Mr. Mannchen also noted that such achievements are extremely rare.

Pintail Landfill LLC ceased pursuit of its landfill permit on the old Rainey Ranch property on Hwy. 6 on June 25, 2018, ending the 7-year community fight to stop the project.
