Lightning strike closes Pattison Park
The Pattison City Park has been closed for safety after lightening struck one of the largest trees in the park and split it apart. Closure and no trespassing signs have been erected. The park will reopen after the tree has been cut down and cleaned up.
Mayor Pro Tem Seth Stokes stated that after he received a phone call about the tree, he went to check on the park and saw that there were some other dead trees that needed attention also. The Council received a proposal from a tree contractor but no action was taken on the matter as consideration of a contract had not been placed on the agenda. There was some discussion of possibly selling the wood to raise money for new playground equipment but no decision in the matter was finalized. The contract matter may be taken up during the next meeting.
