WCMG Spring Garden Plant and Seed Sale

Hempstead – The Waller County Master Gardeners are having a spring vegetable and herb plant sale Saturday, March 2, 2019.  The plant sale is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Waller County Extension Office, 846 6th  Street, Hempstead, Texas 77445.

In addition to 20 variety of tomatoes, 16 varieties of peppers and 18 varieties of herbs, the Master Gardeners are also selling seeds.  These are specialty seeds producing quality-assured vegetables.  Some seeds are organic.  The seeds are not genetically modified seeds, rather the seed breeder uses traditional plant methods, which is a slow, painstaking process that may take eight or more years to complete, from the first selection to seed sales. There are over 600 packets of seeds ranging from bush and pole beans to high yielding yard long beans.  There are four varieties of cucumbers offering slicers, picklers and unusual, serpentine fruit. Garden favorite squash varieties to include zucchini, pan patty, crookneck and butternut. There is a heat tolerant lettuce variety that will do well in the Texas environment.  Boro beets, Sugarsnax carrots, Clemson spineless okra, Hammerhead spinach and Purple Top White Globe turnips are star studded favorites. Bags of worm composting will be available for sale to mix in your garden beds when planting those seeds and transplants.
