KILLEEN, TEXAS — January 28, 2019 Joseph Walker, an Unaccompanied Veteran was laid to rest in the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen. The State of Texas conducted the burial for Joseph Walker a United States Air Force Veteran.
Walker served from September 1964-1968. He passed away in November 2018.
The Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery staff coordinated with the Fort Hood Casualty Office to ensure that Walker received full military honors.
The On-Site Representative of the Veterans Land Board accepted the United States flag on Walker’s behalf. Walker’s services were attended by a large gathering of citizens and veterans who honored Walker for his Vietnam era service to our country.
The Texas Veterans Land Board works with the local community and fellow Veterans service organizations to ensure that NO Veteran is EVER left behind.
The Texas Land Office under George P. Bush began efforts in 2015 to ensure a proper burial for “unaccompanied veterans.” A public plea is issued asking the public to attend the services.
Prior to that, a veteran’s burial was up to the discretion of a county judge and could result in cremation and the remains being placed in storage.
