Why are we here?

The Sunday School teacher asked her class of five year olds, “Why are we here?” None of the children had an answer. They sat silently and simply looked at the teacher with questioned questioning faces. The Sunday School teacher then said, “We are here to help others.” Then, one of the children asked, “What are the others here for?” It was a fair question.

A poster in my collection refers to lifters and leaners. It is the lifters that help others. It is the leaners who rely upon the helpfulness of others. We should all be lifters.

America has now been burdened by a third group – haters. The national press announces a lot of hate in today’s world. It is unfortunate that disagrements have gone from differences of opinion to vocal hatred and threats of violence. Sometimes it goes beyond a mere threat and violence arrives.
